What is the Edge of the World?
The Edge of the World is part of the Tuwaiq Mountain range, a massive rocky escarpment stretching over 800 kilometers across central Saudi Arabia. However, the famous section — the one everyone knows — is the cliffs that offer a panoramic view of Wadi Hanifah and the vast desert extending to the horizon and beyond.
The view from above literally makes you feel like you’re standing on the edge of a continent — and that’s where the name comes from. Geologists say the area was originally under the ocean, and the mountain’s edges preserve marine fossils millions of years old. How to get to the Edge of the World?
The journey starts from Riyadh heading northwest. Most people use the Google Maps app — just type “Edge of the World” or “حافة العالم” and it will take you to the nearest point.
Detailed route:
- Leave Riyadh via King Salman Road (Qassim Highway).
- After about 60 km, take the exit toward Al-Hareer—Al-Ghat.
- Follow the signs toward the wilderness parks — the entire area is a nature reserve.
- The last 10 km are a dirt road — it’s important to drive a four-wheel drive, especially after rain.
- You’ll see parking lots and a rest area upon arrival. Park your car and walk for a few minutes to reach the edge.
What to do at the Edge of the World?

The best thing to do — arrive about half an hour before sunset. Riyadh’s sun paints the escarpment in golden hues, and the sight of Wadi Hanifah gradually disappearing into the darkness is indescribable. The sunset there is one of the most beautiful things.
