Al Masmak Palace was built in 1282 AH (1865 AD) under Imam Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turki as a defensive fortress with thick mud walls and narrow gun slits. But its most historic moment came in 1319 AH (1902 AD), when King Abdulaziz — may God have mercy on him — recaptured it during the Battle of Riyadh.
