Where can you find Jabal Al-Qarah?
Jabal Al-Qarah is one of the most stunning natural landmarks in the Eastern Region, located about 15 kilometers north of Hofuf city in Al-Ahsa Governorate. If you’re coming from Riyadh or Dammam, the route is straightforward — take the Gulf Road, and you’ll reach it in less than an hour from Dammam. The mountain is uniquely shaped, almost as if it came from another planet!
The Mystery of the Amazing Caves
What makes Jabal Al-Qarah different from other mountains is its incredible interior caves. These caves are not ordinary grottos — they have bizarre shapes inside, with arches and hollows carved by nature over millions of years. The strange thing is that the temperature inside remains cool even during the hottest summer months in Al-Ahsa! People visit in July and August and enjoy natural air conditioning 😄.
The rocks there are of a special type — smooth limestone, shaped by wind and moisture over the years into these breathtaking geometric forms. Some caves resemble massive halls, while others are narrow passages with high ceilings. If you love photography, you’ll find incredible opportunities here.

Historical and Natural Overview
Jabal Al-Qarah, or “Jabal Al-Shib’an” (as locals in Al-Ahsa call it), is a rocky massif rising 230 meters above sea level. The rock formations date back millions of years, from the Jurassic period. In the past, the people of Al-Ahsa used the caves as grain storage because the natural coolness preserved crops for months.
Today, the site is fully developed with lighting inside the caves, safe pathways, and parking lots. Entry is very affordable — 10 SAR per person. It’s suitable for families and children and doesn’t require fitness to walk through the caves.
