In the heart of the capital Riyadh, next to the historic King Abdulaziz Center, stands the Saudi National Museum as one of the most prominent cultural landmarks in the Kingdom. A massive platform that tells the story of this land from the earliest ages to the present day.

Overview of the Museum

The museum opened in 1419 AH (1999 AD), on the occasion of the Kingdom’s celebrations of the centenary of the unification of the country. Architect Raymond Moriyama designed the museum’s facade with its desert colors, reminding visitors of the beauty of the golden sands of the Empty Quarter.

The museum spans an area of 28,000 square meters and houses eight permanent exhibition halls covering the history of the Arabian Peninsula from the Paleolithic Age to the modern era.

Notable Artifacts

The museum houses rare pieces, including the most prominent “Shahid Palace of Imru’ al-Qays,” a rare inscription from the third century AD, stone tools dating back 80,000 years, and interactive models of the Holy Kaaba and the Prophet’s Mosque through the ages.

Visiting Information

The museum is open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM and extends until 10 PM on weekends. Ticket prices are symbolic, and entry is free on certain days. It is easily accessible in the heart of Riyadh and has a large parking lot.
