Today, Tuesday, May 26, millions of pilgrims are standing on the plain of Arafat for the most important pillar of Hajj. This is the Day of Arafah — the day when Muslims from around the world gather in a powerful spiritual scene across the holy site.
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court confirmed that today is the Day of Arafah after the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon was sighted earlier this month. Eid al-Adha will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27.
Over Two Million Pilgrims at Arafat
The Kingdom is hosting a large number of pilgrims this year from both inside and outside the country. The international flight arrival phase ended on May 21, with pilgrims arriving from Pakistan, Indonesia, India, Egypt, Malaysia, and other Muslim nations. Pilgrims then moved to Mina and began climbing Mount Arafat this morning.
Security forces, health authorities, and service agencies are on high alert to serve the guests of God. The Saudi Red Crescent has announced full operational readiness, and the Ministry of Health has set up hospitals and mobile clinics at Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina. Field teams are deployed around the clock to provide emergency services.
Eid al-Adha Holiday in Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced that the Eid al-Adha holiday for public and private sector employees starts today, Tuesday, May 26, and continues through the end of the week. Eid officially begins tomorrow with Eid prayer, followed by the Days of Tashreeq through Saturday, May 30.
For pilgrims: After the Day of Arafah, pilgrims head to Muzdalifah for overnight stay, then return to Mina for the stoning of the pillars during Tashreeq days, and perform Tawaf al-Ifadah at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
